Racisim is a form of humor that like satire, is commonly used in todays culture. A prominant example of this is the broadway hit, Avenue Q. A show that deals with racisim in a humorus fasion. One of the Songs is’ Everyone Is A Little Bit Racist. (http://smegy.imeem.com/music/FAuFoEDA/everyones_a_little_bit_racist/). It involves characters such as Gary Coleman, Christmas Eve and others who each represent part of the steryotype. The show tries to promote the idea that it’s ok to be a little bit racist and that in some way shape or form were all affected by it.

So why is satire so popular? Why are so many people and groups interested in using humor to criticize social problems? How come something like Borat or “A Modest Proposal” is considered satire, while Scary Movie isn’t?  Is satire something you enjoy, or does it just annoy you? What are some of your favorite examples of satire?

Satire is a very common form of humor in our society today becasue of it’s relavence to the people. Satire deals with issues that are more relavent in society. In today’s world it would issuses such as the war in iraq or the bush administratioin. Shows such as The Daily Show and The Colbert Report are succesfull becasue of this atribute. They all reveal key problems in our society and bring them to the front so that they gain more attention. Examples of this are the Show South Park’s episode on censorship and iraq. But the biggesty examples of this at the moment is Borat. This is a show that represents the american view of many people.

we’re doing act 3 scences 3-5 of the scottish play. We have divided up the cast parts divided up the gobs for the prompt book. But besides that we’ve done nothing. Some members of our group are not coooperating as well as planned. Characters such as Banquo are not wokring well with the updated stage directions and lines. THIs problem is diverting the majority of the groups energy and is prohibiting the improvement of our group.

I agree with Ian McEwe’s (Ian) view on evil. He believes that there is no supenatural force driving us and that it’s just people. I agree on the fact that there is nothing driving us, supernaturaly, to do anything except ourselves. It’s just humans being humans and when something so horrible happens and we have no other words for it we deem it evil. He also points out that humans are not just evil beings doing nothing but evil but are capable of acts of extrodinary kindness and love as well as extrodinary destruction and hate. For every action a human makes there seems to be an opposite and equal reation just like everything else.

Ian also say’s that the thought of 9/11 as the most most spectacular event of human cruelty is false. I believe that 9/11 is the event that people of today’s AMERICAN society can most easily relate to and feel the closest to and therefore we feel the strongest about this event. An event or space cannot be demed evil only the actions that put the event in action in place can.
